Unified Database Management System group (UDBMS group)
Vision of UDBMS
The UDBMS group is responsible for teaching and developing new techniques related to the database and data management fields in the Department of Computer Science.
In particular, as more businesses realized that data, in all forms and sizes, is critical to making the best possible decisions, we see the continued growth of systems that support massive volume of non-relational or unstructured forms of data. The research focus of UDBMS group is to develop a novel unified database management system to manage both well-structured data and NoSQL data. Our approach will reduce integration issues, simplify operations, and eliminate migration issues between relational and NoSQL data.
The above figure shows one example of the diverse data models used in an E-commerce application. It includes relational, XML, graph, JSON and key-value data models.
